Regional Operations Director, Alpha - $200,000/year USD
You walk into a facility and immediately spot what's wrong: the unfiled report on a loose ceiling tile, an HVAC return making noise for days, a landscaping contractor who billed for incomplete work. You don't wait for complaints. You fix problems before they escalate. This ability defines the role. Alpha manages premium K–12 facilities where families expect a safe, consistent, tour-ready environment every single day—not only during special events. You will uphold this standard throughout the Northwest: anchored at the San Francisco Bay Area campus, with routine travel to locations in CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, and ID. Your oversight separates campuses that maintain excellence from those that deteriorate between leadership reviews.
About the Role
Year one emphasizes establishing standards and vendor accountability: defining operational readiness, implementing audit protocols, removing underperforming vendors, and training Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists in consistent execution. As the region expands and your operational framework matures, the role evolves into sustained regional oversight. You will become the operator the organization relies on during new openings, crisis response, or standard refinement. This is a field position. If you prefer remote dashboard management, this isn't the right fit. If you want direct responsibility for maintaining premium standards across 25+ schools with full authority to execute, continue reading.
Responsibilities
- Executing scheduled on-site inspections at Northwest campuses using documented criteria for cleanliness, HVAC, safety, security, signage, landscaping, furniture, and tour-readiness, then ensuring corrective actions are completed and verified.
- Responding to facilities issues and emergencies by coordinating vendors and campus staff, closing work orders only after confirming resolution (urgent within 24 hours, standard within 1 week).
- Overseeing local vendor compliance with service agreements, terminating consistently underperforming contractors, renegotiating contracts, and conducting direct accountability discussions on quality and budget.
- Establishing a weekly operational cadence with Campus Coordinators and Site Specialists, providing clear written updates on regional standards compliance, vendor metrics, escalations, and capital expenditure tracking.
- Overseeing significant campus improvements and developing enterprise-wide standards and AI-supported procurement frameworks to ensure uniform campus launch and operation.
- Maintain every Northwest region campus as safe, premium, and tour-ready every day.
What You Won’t Be Doing
- Operating remotely through dashboards. This position demands frequent on-site presence at the Bay Area campus and 30–50% travel to other regional facilities in CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, and ID.
- Leading new campus design or managing ground-up construction projects. Capital development resides with a separate team.
- Establishing company-wide procurement policy disconnected from operational reality. Your standards emerge from direct site observation.
- Working within clean organizational charts with formal authority over all stakeholders. You will secure accountability through documentation, written follow-through, and rejecting ambiguous vendor commitments.
- Tolerating "tour-ready only for leadership visits" as acceptable, or allowing reactive crisis management to become the operational norm.
Requirements
Basic Requirements
- Located in the Northwest region (CA, WA, NV, UT, OR, or ID), with strong preference for San Francisco Bay Area proximity, and capable of significant time at Bay Area campuses with 30–50% regional travel.
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship.
- 5+ years managing multi-site facilities, regional operations, hospitality operations, retail operations, or school operations.
- Documented success managing vendor-provided services for quality, cost, and SLA performance across multiple sites.
- Hands-on experience addressing urgent facilities challenges including safety, HVAC, security, or cleanliness issues with measurable impact on customer experience.
- Established written operational discipline: issue tracking, escalation documentation, vendor correspondence, and weekly regional performance summaries.
- Proven use of contemporary operations platforms, including AI-assisted planning, work order systems, or predictive maintenance technology.
- Effective executive-level communication and the ability to articulate operational decisions involving safety, premium standards, urgency, vendor limitations, and budget.
- An initiative-driven leadership approach that surfaces issues early and enforces accountability with campus staff and vendors, independent of formal reporting structures.
Nice-to-have Requirements
- Regional operations leadership in premium hospitality, luxury retail, private K–12, or healthcare systems serving demanding clientele.
- Experience building or rehabilitating regional operations frameworks previously dependent on individual effort rather than documented standards.
- History of vendor termination and rebuilding reliable local contractor networks.
- Experience managing capital improvement initiatives (HVAC, AV/networking, landscaping, interior renovations) in active, client-facing facilities.
- Familiarity with AI-driven operational environments where automation handles routine tasks, enabling personnel to concentrate on strategic judgment.
