Regional Medical Director, Gene Therapy

This is a full-time, field-based opportunity with a preference for candidates located in the Southeast or Northeast regions of the United States. The Medical Affairs group is driven by our responsibility to patients, engaging science, and our opportunity to help the scientific community understand Genetix’s work. The Medical Affairs team serves as a trusted source of information about Genetix’s science to healthcare providers worldwide, linking innovative science from our labs and clinical research to patients in the clinic. As the only company with three FDA-approved gene therapy products, we are driven to bring these therapies to a growing number of deserving patients.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert and team leader for programs/indications supporting our gene therapy portfolio, bridging clinical science and commercial efforts to ensure strategic alignment across internal and external functions.
• Lead peer-to-peer interactions, development and execution of advisory boards, KOL advocacy, congress presence, and medical symposia.
• Provide structured feedback to internal teams on actionable field insights, advance data generation efforts, and ensure measurable impact on clinical understanding, access, and appropriate use.
• Develop and execute Medical Affairs strategy for gene therapy across sickle cell disease (SCD) and transfusion-dependent thalassemia (TDT), aligning with overall company strategy and supporting company goals.
• Build external relationships to provide scientific and clinical information on therapies to key healthcare providers (HCPs) and bring actionable insights from KOLs and treating physicians.
• Cultivate KOL advocacy by engaging with trusted, highly influential industry experts to support Genetix’s scientific message, clinical research, and product value, enhancing product credibility and influencing clinical practices.
• Provide medical leadership to cross-functional teams (commercial, clinical, operations, payor, and advocacy) to support enhanced patient outcomes and drive company-wide adoption of the scientific platform and lexicon.
• Contribute to medical education and communications by supporting the creation of evidence-based content that enhances patient-provider communication and improves health literacy.
• Research and explore scientific presentations and publications, gather competitive intelligence, and summarize key findings for internal teams.
• Maintain proficiency in delivering scientific information via in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats using clear narratives and visual aids.
• Ensure compliance with applicable company policies and regulations, maintaining integrity and scientific accuracy in all activities.

Requirements

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent), or advanced scientific/clinical training (e.g., Ph.D., PharmD, or MSN) with at least 7 years of combined experience in relevant patient care and/or Medical Affairs.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with key opinion leaders and external stakeholders.
• Previous experience in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, Cell and Gene Therapy, or other biologic therapies; experience with hemoglobinopathies such as TDT and SCD is valued.
• Strong scientific expertise and the ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Residence in the Southeast or Northeast U.S. preferred; ability to travel frequently to treatment centers, referring practices, academic conferences, and other engagements.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to lead technical and business discussions internally and externally.

Pay

$225,000 USD - $275,000 USD base salary pay range. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and long-term incentive. Actual base salary will be based on experience, skills, relevant education/qualifications, external market, internal equity, and other job-related factors.
