R3 Wound Care & Hyperbarics is a patient-centered provider of advanced wound care and hyperbaric medicine services across Texas, with clinic locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Houston, and San Antonio. We focus on delivering high-quality clinical care, improving patient outcomes, supporting referring providers, and building a consistent clinical platform across multiple sites.
Position Summary
The Regional Medical Director is a hands-on physician leadership role responsible for providing advanced wound care and hyperbaric medicine services while supporting clinical quality, patient safety, provider collaboration, and day-to-day clinical operations across assigned clinic locations. This position is approximately 75% clinical and 25% administrative.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage patients requiring advanced wound care services.
- Evaluate, diagnose, treat, and monitor patients requiring hyperbaric oxygen therapy, including appropriate pre-treatment assessment and ongoing clinical oversight.
- Provide physician leadership for assigned clinic teams, including advanced practice providers, LVNs, Medical Assistants, Hyperbaric Technicians, Patient Care Coordinators, and other clinical or administrative team members.
- Supervise Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, as applicable, including clinical collaboration, delegation, chart review, protocol adherence, performance feedback, and escalation of complex clinical issues.
- Promote safe, effective, and compliant operation of hyperbaric chambers and related clinical services.
- Ensure patients are appropriately evaluated before hyperbaric treatment and that contraindications, risks, and treatment concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
- Guide, train, and support clinic staff in clinical workflows, patient care standards, documentation expectations, and operational procedures.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, referring physicians, payers, and members of the care team regarding treatment plans, progress, education, and follow-up needs.
- Support patient compliance through education, communication, and coordination with referring providers.
- Partner with operations leadership and business development teams to support clinical quality, referral development, patient access, and responsible clinic growth.
- Conduct regular chart reviews to evaluate quality of care, documentation, coding, medical necessity, and opportunities to optimize healing pathways.
- Support appropriate use of advanced treatment modalities, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, ultrasound therapy, debridement, advanced skin products, immunofluorescence, and other applicable wound care treatments.
- Participate in peer-to-peer reviews and payer-related clinical discussions as needed.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in the medical record, including documentation by providers under supervision.
- Provide clinic coverage as needed and remain available for occasional weekend support based on medical necessity and provider availability.
- Identify and escalate medical, safety, compliance, or operational concerns through appropriate leadership channels.
- Model professional conduct, constructive communication, accountability, and patient-centered service at all times.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine, MD, or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, DO, degree required.
- Active, unrestricted medical license in the State of Texas required.
- Board certification required in primary care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, general surgery, or a surgical specialty.
- Wound care experience required.
- Hyperbaric medicine experience required.
- Current ACLS and BLS certification required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- No limitations, restrictions, exclusions, or adverse actions that would prevent clinical practice, credentialing, billing, or participation in federal healthcare programs.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, sound clinical judgment, strong communication skills, positive attitude, and excellent bedside manner required.
- Able to work flexible hours, multitask, and function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three to five years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
- Advanced wound care experience strongly preferred.
- CWS or equivalent certification preferred for candidates who are not trained in surgery.
- Experience supervising Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, or clinical teams preferred.
- Experience working in a multi-site healthcare environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong clinical judgment in wound care, hyperbaric medicine, patient assessment, treatment planning, and follow-up care.
- Knowledge of patient safety expectations, infection control practices, clinical documentation standards, billing and coding standards, medical necessity requirements, and regulatory expectations relevant to wound care and hyperbaric services.
- Ability to lead through influence, communication, accountability, and professional example.
- Ability to coach, correct, and develop team members in a constructive and supportive manner.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, referral sources, payers, providers, and internal team members.
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, organization, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Commitment to maintaining required licensure, certifications, continuing medical education, and credentialing standards.
- Ability to understand and comply with applicable standards, including relevant guidance from the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and other governing or accrediting bodies, as applicable.
