Regional MDS Consultant

About the role

This hybrid position in Central Illinois involves travel. The MDS Consultant ensures accurate and timely completion of all Medicare/Medicaid case-mix documents to secure appropriate reimbursement for care and services provided within the facility. The role includes conducting continual Minimum Data Set (MDS) reviews to achieve optimal allowable Resource Utilization Group (RUG) categories, overseeing the MDS/Prospective Payment System (PPS) documentation and submission process, and integrating nursing, dietary, social recreation, restorative, rehabilitation, and physician services for proper assessment and reimbursement.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the facility follows organizational policies and procedures and complies with all state regulations.
• Understand and implement company policies and procedures.
• Complete all MDS assessments—including PPS Medicare, quarterly, annual, and significant change—accurately and on time.
• Verify electronic submissions of MDS, perform corrections when necessary, and maintain appropriate records.
• Coordinate interdisciplinary participation in completing the MDS for each resident according to regulatory time frames.
• Ensure completeness and thoroughness of documentation as mandated by federal and state standards.

Requirements

• Current, unencumbered, active Illinois Registered Nurse License.
• Five years of management experience with experience in long-term care.
• General knowledge of professional basic nursing, restorative, and personal care services.
