Regional MDS

About the Role

We are looking for a friendly, reliable, and long-term candidate to provide clinical leadership in the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of MDS services across multiple facilities. The MDS Consultant will support quality care and fiscal responsibility through comprehensive MDS training and support services for the assigned region. You will report directly to one of the most esteemed clinicians in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Consult with and provide technical assistance to MDS Coordinators through visits and interpretation or clarification of policies and regulations.
• Train new MDS Coordinators in conducting resident assessments, developing plans of care, evaluating residents’ responses to interventions, and documenting clinical records.
• Train new MDS Coordinators on the RAI manual and all applicable deadlines for resident assessments and completion of Minimum Data Sets (MDSs).
• Observe MDS and related practices for compliance with standards and regulations.
• Regularly inspect facilities and nursing practices for compliance with standards of nursing practice and federal, state, and local regulations.
• Assume the role of interim MDS Coordinator as needed.
• Train facility MDS staff on company best practices, including coordination with other members of the Compliance Team (e.g., DON, BOM, Medical Records, Therapy) to ensure compliant billing.
• Lead facility management staff and consultants in developing and executing a business plan focusing on all aspects of facility operations, including clinical management.
• Develop and implement metrics and benchmarks for the company’s quality of care, evaluating performance against these standards.
• Advise and direct the Clinical Support Team and Director of Nursing to maximize resident satisfaction and well-being.
• Develop and utilize a standardized process to evaluate and evolve practices, reducing variability and improving patient care and safety.
• Develop, implement, and monitor quality management policies and procedures for quality data collection and reporting on QM measures.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of eligibility, referrals, case management, disease management systems, and Quality Management programs, providing objective evaluations and recommendations.
• Review existing clinic information system capabilities for tracking and monitoring quality indicators, making adaptations for standardized reporting across all centers.
• Ensure Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) guidelines are followed in the assigned region, focusing on resident care and financial reimbursement through the MDS process.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of resident assessments in accordance with Medicare, Medicaid, OBRA, and other payer program requirements.
• Utilize and manage survey information to address areas of importance as defined by the community and service partners.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and laws relating to nursing home administration; guide facilities to operate within established company policies and practices.
• Ensure facilities maintain building and grounds to appropriate standards, equipment and work areas are clean and safe, and hazardous conditions are addressed.
• Ensure Universal Precaution, Infection Control, Isolation, Fire Safety, and Sanitation practices and procedures are followed.
• Assist the Administrator in preparing staff for inspection surveys, instructing staff on conduct, disclosure, and immediate corrections of problems noted by surveyors.
• Review and reinforce important standards previously cited.
• Participate in preparing the Plan of Correction response to inspection surveys and implement follow-up QA for any nursing allegations.
• Provide 24-hour “on-call” service to the nursing center in case of emergency.
• Ensure adequate orientation and in-service training programs are provided for MDS personnel.
• Perform other duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned or required.

Requirements

• Currently licensed as an RN in the state practiced.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing school.
• Minimum of five (5) years in long-term or acute healthcare.
• Minimum of five (5) years working as an MDS Nurse in long-term or acute healthcare.
• At least three (3) years of multi-facility, regional MDS experience.
