About the Role

This position manages and oversees overall plant maintenance and operations for a defined region within ORMAT’s Battery Storage portfolio. The role coordinates daily activities to assure optimum plant performance, including developing plant operation and maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, safety protocols, inventory management, efficiency improvements, and field project implementation. The position also focuses on revenue improvement and cost reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Thorough understanding of battery operation, including start-up, shutdown, and emergency actions
  • Overall regional management, including maintenance budgeting, personnel, safety, and operating processes
  • Ensures plant compliance with environmental, safety, health regulations, and fire protection programs
  • Operates the plant within the terms and conditions of all contracts and agreements
  • Oversees operating and technical staff, such as operations, maintenance, and engineering personnel
  • Coordinates routine and non-routine preventive and corrective maintenance on plant equipment, including monitoring and adjusting equipment parameters
  • Leads a team of engineers, technicians, support contractors, and internal resources
  • Requisitions and assists in ordering and receiving plant materials
  • Represents the company with vendors and regulators as assigned
  • Continuously increases knowledge through independent study
  • Implements emergency and safety procedures as assigned
  • Participates in design reviews, commissioning, and startup of battery storage facilities
  • Serves as a technical expert to troubleshoot equipment and systems
  • Operates a vehicle safely, including entering/exiting without assistance and remaining alert during travel
  • Travels overnight approximately 10% of the time by air, train, or auto
  • Climbs ladders and works on elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways
  • Maintains trend reports on equipment operation for assigned systems
  • Completes various plant reports
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least five (5) years of technical training in operations and routine maintenance of battery storage, power plants, or equivalent environment, or five years of experience working in a power plant or similar environment
  • Thorough knowledge of operating a power plant or battery storage facility
  • Background in operating and maintaining mechanical and/or electrical systems (ability to maintain electrical systems preferred)
  • Demonstrated understanding of power plant O&M, plant engineering, contracts, and general plant business functions
  • Understanding of accounting, contract administration, HR, procurement, and other plant administration functions
  • Familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulatory agencies
  • Familiarity with basic internetworking protocol and remote communication constructs for telemetry with RTUs
  • Knowledge of PLC-based instrumentation and control systems (troubleshooting, repair, and calibration preferred)
  • Preferred working knowledge of power electronics within a utility (or similar) operating environment
  • Preferred knowledge of utility industry measurement & verification standards
  • Ability to understand engineering design drawings, vendor equipment drawings, and technical information
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, and test equipment in a power plant environment
  • Thorough knowledge of plant hazards and safety requirements
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other programs
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at a level sufficient to safely and efficiently perform job duties
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record acceptable to ORMAT’s auto insurance carrier
  • Ability to make effective long-term and instantaneous decisions
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to balance competing priorities using discretion
  • Familiarity with standard power plant PPE and its proper use
  • May be required to travel to other company sites

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally performs heavy lifting up to 75 pounds
  • Frequently climbs to and works off elevated platforms, ladders, and walkways
  • Works in confined spaces and harsh weather conditions
  • Wears a variety of protective equipment
  • Jobsite duties require sitting and/or standing for long periods with moderate bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to work at a computer and computer monitor for extended periods while staying alert
