Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide regional leadership and governance for North American import and export compliance, ensuring U.S., Mexico, and Canada operations adhere to all applicable trade and customs regulations.
  • Maintain deep expertise in USMCA and Country of Origin (COO) requirements; conduct audits of plant activities to ensure full compliance.
  • Lead and support resolution of ongoing tariff-related issues impacting U.S. and Mexico operations.
  • Conduct periodic regional trade risk assessments, identify gaps, and drive corrective action plans across plants and shared services.
  • Quantify, track, and communicate the financial impact of tariffs, duty spend, and mitigation actions to Finance and executive leadership.
  • Partner with Purchasing and Finance to ensure accurate duty accruals, reconciliation, post-entry adjustments, and recovery opportunities (e.g., drawback, reconciliation filings).
  • Provide governance and performance oversight of customs brokers, forwarders, and logistics service providers, including KPIs, audits, and escalation management.
  • Own regional logistics and trade master data governance, including HTS codes, COO, FTA attributes, routing data, and supplier documentation.
  • Provide regional leadership for logistics management, monitoring logistics supplier’s performance, optimizing the logistics network and driving transportation and freight cost reduction initiatives.
  • Ensure achievement of freight and logistics budgets.
  • Support plant PC&L teams in achieving key performance indicators through continuous improvement initiatives focused on logistics network and cost optimization.
  • Support advanced PC&L activities for new product launches, including PFEP development, MOQ optimization, and support of production transfers.
  • Support plant teams during internal and external audits (e.g., customer, MMOG, VDA, IATF, ISO).
  • Support escalation issues esp. urgent shipment across plants, suppliers, and customers.
  • Act as a key liaison between operations, corporate departments, and GPOPS.
  • Provide coverage and backup support to plant and corporate PC&L teams as needed.
  • Assist Director PC&L in budget planning and forecasting activities.
  • Travel requirements – 50% - 75% (worse case)

Education / Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or related field; APICS preferred
  • 5+ years experience in Supply Chain or Customs and Trade Compliance (automotive manufacturing)
  • Experience with North American trade compliance: import/export regulations, customs requirements, trade documentation
  • Working knowledge of USMCA and Country of Origin (COO) compliance, audits, and tariff management
  • Experience supporting tariff mitigation and customs issues (U.S. and Mexico preferred)
  • SAP experience preferred (PC&L, MM, IM/WM, Repetitive Manufacturing, Shipping/Receiving)
  • Financial and business acumen, including logistics and duty cost awareness
  • Knowledge of automotive customer systems and requirements
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and time-management skills
  • Experience in logistics, freight management, and transportation optimization
  • Knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing principles

Language Ability

  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, plant operations, local and global teams
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and processes, procedures, manuals, work instructions, etc.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from various teams, groups, managers, Executive Team, team members, customers and suppliers.

Math Ability

  • Strong math skills are required
  • Strong financial and presentation skills is preferred

Reasoning Ability

  • Must be able to analyze problems logically and develop plans for resolution
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks and be organized in approach to planning
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Strong analytical problem solving skills to determine root cause of the issues
  • Proposes and oversees implementation of corrective actions

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office software
  • Proficient in SAP is preferrable
