About the Role
The Regional Director of Engineering (DOE) provides leadership for a multi-location, internationally focused business. This role is responsible for the daily management of all engineering and maintenance personnel, project management, and implementation of business development and growth initiatives, including expansions, openings, task force, and contract work.
Responsibilities
Daily Maintenance
- Overall management of a growing team of direct reports, with the ability to effectively scale up or down.
- Development and maintenance of an active, up-to-date list of parts and vendors, including financials, costs, and ordering processes.
- Maintenance of vendor contact information (names, emails, phone numbers) and ordering processes.
- Development and upkeep of current and preventative maintenance schedules, with weekly reporting on dates and financials (e.g., oil, coolant, filters, pumps).
- Maintenance of an active, prioritized list of vessel projects.
- Coordination of maintenance and local contracted service providers for timely repairs and procurement of replacement parts.
- Development and maintenance of detailed mechanical logs for each boat, covering electrical, mechanical, and plumbing components.
- Scheduling and execution of all routine maintenance, such as transmission and oil changes, including engine service schedules.
- Execution of standard and emergency maintenance and repairs for all vessels.
- Partnership with the VP of Asset Management to develop and maintain operating expense budgets, including cost estimating for operations and capital improvements.
- Timely submission of payables and purchase orders.
- Accurate accounting and replenishment of petty cash funds, in coordination with the VP of Asset Management.
- Consistent and accurate reporting of costs, forecasting, and scheduling.
Team Operations
- Essential member of the management team, responsible for directing and supervising all maintenance personnel and coordinating regional operations.
- Selection, promotion, training, and retention of all maintenance and engineering personnel.
- Responsibility for P&L, equipment management, repair, and coordination of asset operations, including team travel oversight.
- Development and implementation of standard operating procedures to ensure regulatory compliance and alignment with RED brand standards and core values.
- Creation and deployment of effective meeting agendas and cadences with direct reports and management teams.
- Conducting vessel and crew checks and walk-throughs when in region.
- Supervision of all aspects of engineering operations, including marine maintenance technicians.
- Partnership with VPs of Asset Management and Operations to manage the marine Task Force.
Safety
- Ensuring overall cleanliness and safe condition of all vessels, spare parts, maintenance parts, and the Shop.
- Interpretation, administration, and compliance with government regulations for construction, maintenance, repair, safety, training, work rules, environmental guidelines, and emergency response.
- Maintenance of daily progress reports for the maintenance channel.
- Deployment of vessel management aspects in emergency planning, training, and execution, including creation, implementation, and review of the yearly Hurricane Preparation Plan.
- Partnership with Charter Operations to audit and maintain all vessel binders for valid documentation.
- Consistent adherence to RED Hospitality & Leisure safety standards and training for Captains and Crew.
- Serving as Delivery Captain and on-site management for Hurricane Plan execution.
- Maintaining a positive safety culture and reinforcing safety training and regulations.
- Preparation, coordination, and follow-up for all USCG inspections.
Training and Compliance
- Consistent training of Engineering and Maintenance teams.
- Management of Marine Operations training budgets, updates, and approvals with Operations, HR, and Finance leaders.
Capital Projects
- Assistance with deployment, usage, and ongoing training of RED’s Inventory Software.
- Development and maintenance of service kits for each vessel.
- Ongoing care, maintenance, and organization of the Shop, including:
- Development and maintenance of an ongoing list of tools, supplies, and spare parts.
- Clean-out and removal of unnecessary items, including disposal of parts/fluids.
- Preparation and deployment of haul outs.
- Updating and securing of all necessary permits and inspections.
- Development and maintenance of good working relationships with third-party vendors, contractors, RED employees, leadership, hotel partners, and USCG connections.
- Successful deployment of marine operations in expansions, openings, task force, and growth initiatives.
- Effective management of the Boat Rental program.
- Management, budgeting, and cost control of inventory shop(s) and purchasing.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 4+ years of progressive management experience, with a minimum of 4+ years of project management experience, including strong estimating and job cost management skills.
- Proven ability to effectively communicate and work with Senior Executives.
- Previous P&L responsibility, with a strong understanding of financial cost accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
- Thorough and current knowledge of marine and logistics operations, with an understanding of day-to-day operations in a busy hospitality marine industry.
- Strong written and oral communication skills for drafting business letters, reports, presentations, policies, procedures, and repair specifications.
- Strong understanding of individual roles, interactions, and responsibilities of employees, including performance management.
- Strong knowledge of and adherence to USCG, OSHA, EPA, and state/local laws governing workplace, crew, employee, and environmental safety.
- Proficiency in G-Suite and Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to travel to other RED locations as needed.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and follow up on a high volume of guest and management requests.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and engage in physical activity for extended periods, including lifting moderate to very heavy items.
