Job Summary

The Corporate Compliance and Privacy Officer will assist with carrying out the functions of the Wellstar corporate compliance program. They will investigate compliance and privacy incidents, interpret findings, and develop and implement policies and procedures.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

  • Conduct investigations into compliance and privacy incidents reported through the company compliance and privacy hotline.

  • Ensure proper case documentation and closure of each investigation.

  • Identify and interview relevant subjects during an investigation.

  • Work collaboratively with department and service line leaders to appropriately respond to reported incidents.

  • Interpret findings of investigations and provide recommendations to address compliance and privacy violations.

  • Prepare and maintain documentation for investigative tools and develop corrective action plans as deemed necessary.

  • Demonstrates the ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality.

  • Works effectively with internal and external stakeholders and promotes the reputation and integrity of the Wellstar Compliance Department.

Regulatory Research/Policies and Procedures

  • Maintains current knowledge of applicable federal and state privacy laws and accreditation standards.

  • Interprets regulations and regulatory guidance materials to determine applicability within WellStar's environment.

  • Strategizes with Executive Director, Corporate Compliance, and key departments to meet WellStar's business needs and provide world-class patient care within the parameters of state and federal requirements.

  • Develops and revises compliance/privacy policies and procedures to reflect current laws, regulations, and standards.

  • Collaborates with key departments, committees, legal counsel, and management to ensure that WellStar has and maintains appropriate privacy and confidentiality consent, authorization forms, and information notices and materials reflecting current WellStar practices and requirements.

  • Serves as a resource to provide guidance to the Regional Compliance team regarding compliance/privacy investigations, questions, and other compliance matters within WellStar's facilities.

  • Serves as a resource to provide guidance to all WellStar personnel regarding the appropriate uses and disclosures of protected health information, patient privacy rights, and regulatory compliance questions.

Compliance/Privacy Education Program Development and Maintenance

  • Analyze regulatory requirements, industry trends and WellStar incident/complaint trends.

  • Develop compliance and privacy education materials based on regulatory requirements, industry trends and in response to incident trends.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelor's Health Administration or Bachelor's Other or Master's Law-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

  • All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • Preferred or CHPS - Cert Healthcare Privacy & Sec Upon Hire

  • Preferred or CHPC - Cert Healthcare Privacy Compli Upon Hire

Required Minimum Experience

Minimum 5 years experience in healthcare compliance.

Required Minimum Skills

  • Communicate well with others and present a positive image to the public, hospitals, and other healthcare providers.

  • Clear, concise, and persuasive writing and presentation skills.

  • Strong critical thinking, organizational skills and an orientation to deadlines and detail.

  • Ability to respond well under pressure.

  • Strong skills in use of information systems, databases, Excel, and Microsoft Word.

  • Enjoys working as a member of a cohesive team and is good at doing so.

  • Well-developed communications and consensus building skills.

  • Knowledge of health care compliance policies, practices, and systems.

  • Ability to develop advanced compliance principles, theories, and concepts.

  • Ability to draft and revise documents including policies, standards, analyses, and reports.
