About the role
As a Field Service Engineer at Ingevity, you'll be the go-to technical expert supporting asphalt producers in the field. You'll work hands-on at customer plants to troubleshoot issues, optimize asphalt performance, and ensure successful use of Ingevity's specialty additives.
Responsibilities
- Work directly at asphalt plants to troubleshoot and optimize PLC-controlled systems, supporting both batch and drum operations in real time
- Install, calibrate, and maintain asphalt pump systems and flow meters, ensuring accurate integration with plant PLCs and terminal controls
- Take ownership of Evotherm delivery systems, including setup, calibration, and operation of metering equipment during plant trials and live production
- Diagnose and resolve issues across pump skids, including pumps, VFDs, and flow measurement devices, to ensure consistent and reliable additive performance
- Build deep expertise in Evotherm systems, with the ability to repair, retrofit, and replace components in the field
- Partner closely with plant engineers, electricians, and operators to improve system performance and ensure seamless plant integration
- Provide hands-on support during production and paving (laydown), ensuring proper dosing and real-time mix optimization
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to troubleshoot plant equipment and controls
- Maintain accurate service records, including installations, maintenance activity, and system performance
- Follow strict safety protocols and lead by example in plant and jobsite environments
Requirements
- Strong hands-on experience working in or around asphalt plants (batch or drum)
- Ability to travel 50% within your region (Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Oregon, & Arizona)
- Strong troubleshooting skills across plant controls, pumps, and automation systems
- Familiarity with PLC systems, plant electrical components, and instrumentation
- Experience with asphalt operations, plant maintenance, or QC/materials production
- Comfortable working in the field and supporting active plant production environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to work alongside plant teams and contractors
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in asphalt plants (batch or drum)
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Ability to pass a drug screening and background check
Skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills across plant controls, pumps, and automation systems
- Familiarity with PLC systems, plant electrical components, and instrumentation
