Refund/Credit Balance Specialist
About the role
The Refund/Credit Balance Specialist is responsible for ensuring all outstanding credits tied to a specific accession are researched to validate any refund needed back to the patient, payor, and/or client. This is done by reviewing all corresponding EOB’s, patient payments, and/or client invoices. This role requires a strong team player, who can partner with others to share information. You will also be highly organized with excellent follow-up and comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversite and management of vendor clarifications and timely turnaround time on all outstanding credit balance accounts
- Aid in monitoring production and quality assurance for vendor and work assigned
- Work all escalated accounts in a timely manner
- Maintain compliance based on XIFIN and governmental guidelines to ensure no more than a 60-day turnaround time, depending on payor
- Make calls to payors when unclear on who should be refunded based on documentation in review
- Understand regulations at a payor level pertaining to credit balance procedures & processes
Requirements
- High School diploma required, Associate degree or higher preferred
- 1-year related experience in medical field
- Professional working experience in MS Suite
- Understanding of medical terminology
Qualifications
- Detail-oriented, organized, and proactive
- Communicate clearly and confidently, both in writing and in conversation
- Eager to learn, ask great questions, and work with others to solve problems
- Possess the ability to translate technical concepts to a non-technical audience
- Identify denial issues from insurance payors
Skills and experience
- High School diploma required, Associate degree or higher preferred
- 1-year related experience in medical field
- Professional working experience in MS Suite
- Understanding of medical terminology

Pay
The expected hourly range for this role is $20 to $24, based on your experience, skills, and geographic location. Depending on your qualifications, you may be considered for either a Refund/Credit Balance Specialist or Sr. Refund/Credit Balance Specialist title. Final compensation will be determined during the selection process and may vary accordingly.
Schedule
This position will be located at our offices in Charleston, SC.
