Refrigeration Technician supporting and maintaining the industrial ammonia refrigeration and other site utility systems of a state-of-the-art turkey processing plant. Reports to the Refrigeration Supervisor.
Schedule
Primary work schedule of 12-hour shifts on a 2-2-3-2-2-3 rotation, straight nights. Flexibility required to work early/late shifts, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Responsibilities
- Operate, test, and document ammonia refrigeration and other utility systems (e.g., air compressors, boiler).
- Apply working knowledge of industrial refrigeration and site utility equipment to safely install, start up, troubleshoot, and repair refrigeration systems, and monitor utility equipment operation.
- Perform refrigeration Preventive Maintenance (PM) and Process Safety Management (PSM) program tasks, including logs and documentation.
- Oversee and coordinate resources for PM and repairs of refrigeration systems and utility equipment.
- Ensure refrigeration system compliance with state and federal regulations and codes; maintain a safe work environment for self and staff.
- Assist supervisor and co-workers with repairs; openly share refrigeration knowledge with others.
- Work with minimal supervision and bring continuous improvement suggestions for refrigeration and other utility systems to appropriate resources.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager/Supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum education: GED (required); Associate’s degree (preferred but not required).
- Refrigeration coursework, certificate, or formal training (preferred).
- Minimum of 2 years of work experience in refrigeration equipment and systems or a related field.
Skills & Attributes
- Working knowledge of industrial ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Solid understanding of ammonia refrigeration regulations and systems.
- Detail-oriented; able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Physical Requirements
- Lift and move up to 40 lbs.; occasionally up to 50 lbs.
- Stand, squat, climb, and work from heights on a regular basis, up to 12 hours per shift.
- Operate in hot, cold, and wet environments (e.g., 35–40°F or 100°F).
- Safely work with low and high voltage equipment.
- Communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
