REFRIGERATION OPERATOR I AKUTAN SHOREPLANT

About the Role

Trident Seafoods is North America's largest vertically integrated seafood harvesting and processing company. The Refrigeration Operator I maintains optimal operation of industrial refrigeration systems and associated equipment by following operating procedures, performing preventative maintenance, documenting inspections, and collaborating with the QA/QC team to maintain acceptable temperatures for all product types.

Equipment serviced includes: Control systems (Manual and Computerized), Plate Freezers, Blast Freezers, Tunnel Freezers, Spiral Freezers, Compressors, Condensers, Purgers, Pumps, RSW Chillers, Ice Machines, and Cooler units.

Responsibilities

• Assist in operating the system following plant operating and maintenance procedures.
• Assist in scheduled Mechanical Integrity Inspections (weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc.).
• Ensure daily system logs are documented and turned in.
• Assist in routine service, pre/post season maintenance, and repair with Operator 2’s, Contractors, or Refrigeration Technicians.
• Assist supervisors in pre/post season parts/supply inventories.
• Assist and train Refrigeration Assistants in day-to-day activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Pursue qualification and certification as a Refrigeration Technician.
• Actively participate in Trident’s PSM program by maintaining repair records, engaging in meetings, and completing further training.
• Complete required training programs and perform designated work activities in accordance with Trident’s Environmental and Safety Policies.
• Notify designated personnel of any undocumented environmental or safety incidents or risks.

Requirements

• A minimum of 2-3 years of Industrial or Commercial Refrigeration Experience (Freon or Ammonia).
• High School Diploma or equivalent, or training in a Refrigeration Technical Program.

Preferred Qualifications

• EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (optional).
• Refrigeration Tech Program or job experience.
• Certification: Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA) – Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) or equivalent; must be obtained within one year of employment.
• Current 24-Hr. HAZWOPER certificate or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to:

• Wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
• Outside weather conditions.
• High, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock; and vibration.
• Loud noise levels.

Living quarters are provided in Trident facilities; group housing (dorm-style living) is available upon necessity.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger/handle/feel, and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently required to climb or balance.
• Occasionally required to sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, or hear.
• Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Requires distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
• Capable of working long and variable shifts (4-18 hours, typically 12-14 hours) for extended periods.
