Job Summary
The Refrigeration Mechanic provides journeyman level skills in the repair and maintenance of refrigeration equipment. This role is responsible for conducting preventative maintenance inspections, checking gauges, evaluating equipment for deferred maintenance and potential new installations, and maintaining accurate service and repair records.
Responsibilities
- Overhauls and services refrigeration units by repairing, replacing, or adjusting worn or broken parts on condensers, compressors, and water and vacuum pumps; adds gas to refrigeration units; repairs or adjust valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings; adjusts expansion valves; removes/installs motors, thermostats, and humidistats; and tests for refrigerant leaks.
- Checks gauges and makes inspection for preventive maintenance; assists in evaluating equipment for deferred maintenance and new project installation of refrigeration equipment.
- Maintains records and prepares reports on repairs and services.
- Assist in training staff in the maintenance of refrigeration and related equipment.
- Promotes safety and environmental protection by immediately reporting unsafe situations, spills, and accidents; following University safety plans/procedures/protocols; and participating in appropriate safety training.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: High School Diploma, Vocational Training or Apprenticeship in a related field. Five (5) years of related work experience.
Preferred: HVAC A or B License

Working Conditions
Exposure to equipment, tools and chemicals used in refrigeration equipment. Works in attics, machine rooms or other operational locations.
Physical Demands: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee’s responsibility.
Pay
Salary Range: $53,196 annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
