About the role
This position works independently to ensure timely, effective coverage and maintenance of central utility systems (ammonia refrigeration, boilers/steam, compressed air, and water systems). The role also provides technical process support throughout the facility. Strong communication skills are essential for interacting with all levels of plant personnel.
Responsibilities
- Open valves on equipment such as compressors, pumps, and condensers to prepare systems for operation and start equipment and auxiliary machinery.
- Observe temperature, pressure, and ampere readings for systems and equipment; adjust controls or override automatic controls to achieve specified operation.
- Record temperature, pressure, and other readings on log sheets at specified intervals.
- Conduct periodic inspections of equipment and systems to assess operating conditions and identify needs for repair or adjustment.
- Repack pumps and compressors, clean condensers, and replace worn or defective parts.
- Work as a team player to ensure product specifications are met safely and efficiently; communicate effectively with team members.
- Follow company GMPs, SOPs, plant rules, and policies.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Strive to satisfy the requirements of internal and external customers.
- Maintain a clean work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial refrigeration/HVAC experience.
- Working knowledge of basic industrial electricity and utilities.
- Ammonia Operator I certification (Garden City or equivalent) is a plus.
- Experience with boiler and steam systems is a plus.
- Experience with compressed air systems is a plus.
- Experience with water (potable) systems is a plus.
