About the role
As a Refinery Chemist at Valero, you will perform laboratory operations, maintain regulatory compliance (especially reformulated gasoline), oversee and train Lab Technicians and Shift Chemists, and complete special projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform environmental chemist duties, to include: the required chemical testing of wastewater and storm water for TNRCC/NPDES permits and the non-permit testing of other environmental samples, as well as any reports and record keeping needed to validate the results.
- Analyse, calibrate, methods, and maintain and repair of instruments.
- Assist with regulatory compliance, especially with reformulated gasoline.
- Train and oversee Lab Techs and Shift Chemists in the use of instruments.
- Perform eleven required tests on wastewater for permits.
- Test storm water for COD, oil and grease.
- Test sour water stripper samples for ammonia and sulfide.
- Complete other duties as assigned (ordering of instrumentation, supplies, etc.).
Requirements
- Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero Memphis Refinery, required.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Physics, or related field required.
- 3 years of directly related laboratory experience required.
Qualifications
- Must be eligible to obtain a TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
