Referral Specialist

About the role
Full-time, non-exempt position (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week).
Pay
$18.75–$22.97/hour, depending on experience. Higher pay available for highly experienced candidates. Additional compensation for bilingual skills, paid on hours worked.

Responsibilities
- Manage work queues for referral activity daily to ensure timely processing and completion
- Assist with patient referrals to internal and external medical facilities
- Handle patient insurance authorizations
- Assist with appointment setup as needed
- Coordinate follow-up between referral sources and patients
- Ensure chart notes and follow-up documentation are linked to referrals
- Provide translated educational materials and directions to patients when necessary
- Process incoming correspondence and respond to calls, emails, and faxes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
- Associate’s Degree or Certificate from an accredited technical school preferred
- One year of experience in an office setting, preferably in a medical or dental office
- Two years of experience in a medical and/or dental front office, with insurance referrals and authorizations preferred
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) at a level 9 (eligible for Bilingual Differential Compensation upon achieving an ALTA score of 9)
- Knowledge of or ability to learn medical terminology
- Ability to prioritize work, handle multiple tasks, and complete projects in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
