REFERRAL SPECIALIST

About the role

This position is responsible for coordinating patient care logistics within St. Mary’s Physician Associates. You will schedule referrals, pre-authorize and pre-certify tests and procedures, and arrange additional tests as requested by providers or staff. The role involves direct communication with clinics, referred facilities, and patients, as well as reviewing clinical data to ensure medical necessity for insurance purposes. Responsibilities

• Schedule referrals for patients of St. Mary’s Physician Associates providers.
• Pre-authorize and pre-certify tests and procedures for providers.
• Schedule additional tests with facilities as requested by SMPA providers or staff.
• Communicate directly with SMPA clinics, referred clinics, and patients.
• Review clinical data to report medical necessity to insurance companies.
• Communicate effectively with SMPA clinics, hospital departments, and patients in a polite, prompt, and helpful manner.
• Answer phone calls within four rings, identifying yourself and the department courteously.
