Referral Specialist

About the Role

As our Referral Specialist, you will orchestrate patient access to specialized care by expertly managing all referral and authorization processes. You will proactively obtain clearances for specialty visits, issue referrals for ancillary services (consults, imaging, labs), and secure approvals for medications, durable medical equipment (DME), home health, and other vital services. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and clear communication to ensure seamless and efficient service delivery for our patients.

Responsibilities

• Resolve pre-certification, registration, and case-related concerns prior to a patient’s appointment, including interacting with patients, insurance carriers, and various internal departments.
• Identify appropriate formularies for patient medication management or vendors for durable medical equipment requests and secure insurance approvals for patients.
• Complete the referral process for a patient’s ancillary, consultation, radiology, or lab visits, including checking insurance coverage, sending approvals, receiving confirmations, scheduling appointments, and notifying patients of progress.
• Provide backup support for medical practice duties as required.
• Convey an image of dignity and trustworthiness while respecting the rights, privacy, and differences of others.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED (General Studies).
• Two (2) years of experience in a medical office or other healthcare environment.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Familiarity with coding and basic computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual.
• Familiarity with the referral/authorization process and interacting with insurance carriers.

Pay

$19.01 - $24.24 per hour.
