Referral Management Specialist

About the role

The Referral Management Specialist I serves as the initial point of contact for individuals and referring physicians seeking access and referral information for medical care at MUSC. This position facilitates the referral process and schedules appointments for multiple specialties and primary care physicians in a call center environment utilizing an automated scheduling system.

Responsibilities

• Triage patient calls according to established algorithms
• Answer questions and resolve issues
• Refer to appropriate clinical team for clinical issues as appropriate
• Collect and record accurate information including demographic, physician, insurance, employment, next of kin, emergency contacts and other miscellaneous information needed to complete the patient’s information
• Ensure effective operations of the clinics, enhance the revenue cycle and provide the highest level of customer service

Requirements

• High School Degree or Equivalent
• 0-6 months of work experience

Qualifications

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, work indoors, work outside in temperature extremes, work from elevated areas, work in confined/cramped spaces, bend at the waist, twist at the waist, squat, perform pinching operations, perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands, perform firm grasping with fingers and hands, perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, use lower extremities for balance and coordination, reach in all directions, lift and carry 50 lbs. unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted, lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs., exert up to 50 lbs. of force, maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes, determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception, have good peripheral vision capabilities, maintain hearing acuity, with correction, perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements, deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts, work overtime as required, work in a latex safe environment, maintain tactile sensory functions, maintain good olfactory sensory function, be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required
