Referral Lab Specialist

Pay
Expected pay for this position is $17.66 - $19.63/hour. Actual pay will be determined by experience, skills, and internal equity.

This is an hourly position.
About the role
This position is responsible for processing all orders and specimens to outside referral labs for testing not performed at the OSF System Lab in Peoria, IL. Responsibilities include correct specimen, order, and sample identification, shipment of specimens to referral labs, billing patient accounts, result entry of test results, and navigation in multiple referral lab internet ordering sites for order entry. The role also involves reporting appropriate infectious disease results to IDPH.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Computer skills with ability to use multiple search engines on internet explorer
- Problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in Ic2it and/or certification in Ic2it
Skills
- Analytical skills necessary to correctly identify specimen type and correct collection container for referred tests
- Ability to multitask and work on several issues at a time with good organizational skills and judgment
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and communicate with other health care professionals
- High level of professionalism in stressful situations
- Analytical skills necessary to use the lab computer system, the hospital computer system, and multiple internet sites
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple activities simultaneously while preparing specimens for shipment
- Analytical skills necessary to interpret routine tests, recognize abnormal test results, and troubleshoot equipment such as a centrifuge and interface to the main referral lab
