About the role

The Referral Coordinator for the OBGYN division will obtain and handle referrals for patients, perform insurance verifications, manage OB payment plans, and ensure compliance with medical record requests at South Denver OBGYN in Littleton.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain referrals for office visits when appropriate
  • Perform timely and accurate insurance verifications for patients
  • Coordinate and schedule all incoming referrals
  • Create and maintain OB payment plans
  • Handle release of records for incoming and outgoing medical record requests
  • Maintain accurate documentation of medical record disclosure
  • Routinely check physicians’ schedules for add-on appointments requiring records for referrals
  • Serve as an OBGYN representative to referring physician offices, insurance carriers, and patients
  • Communicate and collaborate with multiple departments to ensure all referrals are facilitated
  • Keep supervisor and clinic leadership informed of referral activities, issues, and potential problems
  • Assist practice staff courteously and professionally
  • Apply principles of critical thinking to practical and emergent situations, following standardized procedures that may require deviations
  • Apply sound judgment beyond specific instructions and adapt knowledge to different factual situations
  • Back up front desk when needed

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED; or two years of related experience in a medical practice in insurance processing and follow-up
  • Knowledge of medical office procedures
  • Knowledge of managed care organizations and insurance carriers’ requirements for pre-notification of medical services
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Proficiency with computers and job-related software

Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus

Pay

$20 - $24 per hour. The estimate represents the typical salary range; actual salary may vary based on skills, experience, and comparison to other employees in this role.
