About the role

The Laborer / Traffic Control Specialist in Savannah, GA, will maintain an uncompromising focus on safety while performing varied duties on job sites. Responsibilities shift based on project needs, with a strong emphasis on traffic control and general labor tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Erect and maintain traffic control signs and devices according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
  • Keep equipment and materials neat, clean, and orderly on projects.
  • Set up and remove traffic control devices with good judgment and minimal supervision.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be polite to motorists at all times.
  • Work safely in traffic situations while adhering to company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other general labor duties as directed by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Provide own transportation to and from work.
  • Valid driver’s license with a driving record that meets company safety guidelines to operate a company vehicle.
  • Pass a DOT Physical to obtain a DOT Medical card.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Flagger/Traffic Control Training Certification (preferred).

Skills

  • Language: Read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively to customers or employees.
  • Mathematical: Perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages; interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning: Apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagram-based instructions; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach and signal with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.
  • Frequently stand and walk; occasionally sit.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus (20/40 vision, naturally or corrected).
  • Hearing must be excellent or corrected by an audio device.

Work Environment

  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
  • Frequent exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Occasional exposure to wet/humid conditions, high/precarious places, toxic/caustic chemicals.
  • Noise level is usually very loud.
