About the Role
Reeves Construction Company is seeking an experienced Asphalt Plant Operator for the Reeves - Carroll Asphalt Plant in Savannah, GA. The operator will manage asphalt plant controls to weigh and deliver specified quantities of aggregates and asphalt cement to the dryer for heating and to the mixer for blending before dumping into trucks. The role involves maintaining proper heat in the dryer, regulating material flow, and ensuring safe and efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate and maintain asphalt plant and construction equipment.
- Determine proper quantities of materials needed to produce asphalt.
- Adjust controls to regulate the flow of materials and maintain system speed.
- Ensure the plant operates at the proper temperature.
- Perform walk-around and site inspections to identify and correct unsafe conditions.
- Conduct preventative maintenance to ensure equipment is properly serviced.
- Communicate with quality control personnel and adjust material blends as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels of all mix materials and adjust production as needed.
- Supervise employees at the plant and train as necessary.
- Perform welding using an arc welder and cutting torch.
- Monitor plant site to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow.
- Troubleshoot and problem-solve production issues with co-workers and supervisors.
- Accurately complete plant reports and other documentation; enter reports into the computer system.
- Clean control house and yard facility daily.
- Maintain good customer relations.
- Demonstrate initiative and willingness to assist with other job positions as needed for job completion.
Requirements
- 2 or more years of Plant Operator experience.
- Excellent verbal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in high-stress situations.
- Ability to handle multiple projects while maintaining tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail, including basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and comprehension of percentages for calculating material quantities.
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to comply with company policies and safety standards.
- Reliable transportation.
- Willingness to work periodic evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
- Must wear proper attire at all times: safety vests, safety glasses, long pants, above-the-ankle/safety-toed shoes, and maintain a clean and presentable image.
- Continuous mental and visual attention required to safely complete work tasks.
- Project a positive and cooperative attitude with supervisors, co-workers, customers, and the public.
- Valid Driver’s License preferred.
- Must provide documentation of legal right to work in the United States.
Working Conditions
- Ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, squatting, twisting, and climbing heavy equipment throughout the day.
- Ability to balance at heights up to 6 feet from ground level.
- Regularly on feet and using hands, arms, and legs repeatedly.
- Frequent walking on sloped, slippery, and uneven surfaces, as well as working in confined areas.
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to see, with or without vision correction (glasses, contacts).
- Perform strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme weather conditions for extended periods.
- Exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease, oils, loud or constant noise, and moving equipment.
