About the role
The Recycling Coordinator supports the recycling and waste reduction on campus to improve sustainability, aiming to become a national leader in campus recycling and zero-waste initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate the recycling and waste management program.
- Work independently and exercise discretion in managing the program.
- Perform snow removal activities as assigned.
- Develop a comprehensive plan to achieve zero waste and lead campus sustainability efforts.
- Manage recycling collection schedules and track amounts and rates.
- Oversee recycling pick-up programs and coordinate with vendors.
- Investigate and address violations of recycling ordinances.
- Collaborate with event planners to make events more sustainable.
- Train staff on recycling and waste management.
- Develop and manage recycling budgets and grant applications.
- Coordinate with local organizations to repurpose unusable items.
- Conduct presentations and educational events on recycling and sustainability.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 1+ years of experience in a recycling program or similar field.
- One year of experience as a building maintenance worker.
- Valid Virginia driver’s license and insurable with company’s agent.
- Knowledge of DEQ waste disposal requirements.
- Basic knowledge of computer operation for energy management and CMMS systems.
- Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform duties in typical Virginia climate.
