About the role
The Recreational Sports Coach reports to the Director of Recreational Sports and is supervised by the Sport Club Coordinator. Incumbent is responsible for providing a safe, educational environment for skill development, sportsmanship and tactical knowledge acquisition of an assigned team. The Chico State Sport Club Program provides students the opportunity to participate in competitive sports against other intercollegiate teams and represent Chico State, enhancing their collegiate experience and supporting a well‑rounded education through physical, social, and leadership development.
Responsibilities
- Provide a safe, educational environment for skill development, sportsmanship, and tactical knowledge acquisition for an assigned team.
Requirements
- Possess coaching qualifications/certifications as determined by the Sport Club Coordinator and/or sport‑specific league/National Governing Body.
- Obtain and maintain current first aid and CPR/AED certifications.
- Maintain a valid California Driver’s License.
- Complete and comply with the CSU Defensive Driver’s Training course.
- Pass a background check (criminal records check, sexual offender registry check, and/or fingerprinting) prior to appointment.
- Comply with CSU Executive Order 1083 (mandated reporter) as a condition of employment.
- Fulfill the Campus Security Authority (CSA) responsibilities under the Clery Act.
- May be required to obtain additional sport‑specific safety certifications as dictated by the club’s national governing body.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
Coaching qualifications/certifications as determined by the Sport Club Coordinator and/or sport‑specific league/National Governing Body; current first aid/CPR/AED certification; excellent interpersonal skills; valid California Driver’s License; completion of CSU Defensive Driver’s Training; successful background check; compliance with mandated reporter and CSA requirements.
