About the role

The Recreational Activities Staff works with the Recreational Therapist to enhance the lives of individuals served by Dignitas, Inc., which operates five Group Homes and a Semi-Independent Living program specializing in Traumatic Brain & Spinal Cord Injuries.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in leisure planning, social skills, community integration, physical fitness, and overall quality of life improvement for clients.
  • Assist in therapeutic groups such as ADL skills, team building, self-expression, and skill building for all age groups.
  • Manage one-on-one and group social and physical sessions with long-term nursing and short-term rehabilitation residents.
  • Coordinate large events and gatherings, including reserving special locations, food, beverage, and entertainment.
  • Develop and implement cognitively stimulating programs for clients.
  • Facilitate and lead activities, including lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
  • Support clients with their ADLs if necessary.
  • Maintain standards for state requirements regarding documentation, HIPAA, and NCTRC regulations.
  • Participate in the APIED process, a five-step framework for creating personalized treatment and care plans.

Requirements

  • Full-time days, nights, and weekends-flexible schedule depending on activities/outing times.
  • Pass a criminal background check.
  • Hold a valid driver's license and vehicle insurance.
  • Have a basic knowledge of Traumatic Brain & Spinal Cord Injured individuals.
  • Maintain professional boundaries with clients.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Document activities attended with clients and their outcomes.
  • Display a motivated, positive, and energetic attitude.
  • Be flexible, creative, and adaptable to various situations.
  • Assist with client ADLs if needed.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of CPR and other medical procedures.
  • Strong foundation in leadership, communication, time-management, professional compromising, and interpersonal skills.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 20 lbs.

Benefits

During the internship, Dignitas provides training in their APIED processes, which is a five-step framework for creating personalized treatment and care plans. Internship hours are earned while attending the program. Dignitas complies with all college/university internship requirements and regulations. No form of payment is earned during this program, only hours earned for internship requirements.
