About the Role
The Recreational Therapist Intern collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team to plan, organize, and implement ancillary recreational, expressive arts, and psycho-educational therapies for patients. They assess patient needs, develop individualized treatment plans, and engage in milieu programming, skill building, and therapy groups.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient needs and develop/reassess treatment plans collaboratively.
- Participate in milieu programming and group therapy activities.
- Establish therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Contribute to safety monitoring, documentation, and risk reporting.
- Support a positive, professional environment aligned with organizational values.
- Engage in safety management, crisis intervention, and follow-up activities.
- Collaborate with team members and departmental leadership.
- Uphold standards of professionalism, diversity, and inclusion.
Requirements
- Enrolled in an accredited bachelor's or master's program in Therapeutic Recreation or a related field, aiming for NCTRC certification eligibility.
- Knowledge of therapy principles, including DBT, expressive arts, and psycho-educational interventions.
- Prior clinical exposure is helpful.
- Professionalism, enthusiasm, strong communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ongoing training and competency demonstration are required.
