Recreational Soccer Coach/Referee
The Recreational Soccer Coach/Referee is responsible for creating a positive, safe, and engaging environment where young athletes can develop their soccer skills, confidence, and love for the game. This individual will serve as both a coach during practices and, when assigned, a referee during recreational league matches, ensuring games are conducted fairly, safely, and in accordance with league rules.
Coaching Responsibilities
- Plan and lead age-appropriate, engaging training sessions that focus on player development and enjoyment.
- Teach soccer fundamentals including dribbling, passing, shooting, defending, positioning, and teamwork.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for players of all skill levels.
- Encourage good sportsmanship, respect, discipline, and teamwork among players.
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding schedules, expectations, and player development.
- Ensure player safety during all practices and activities.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned practices, games, meetings, and events.
- Represent the organization professionally within the community.
Referee Responsibilities
- Officiate recreational league matches in accordance with league rules and standards which will include at least one match per gameday.
- Maintain fairness, consistency, and impartiality throughout each game.
- Prioritize player safety and enforce rules in a positive, educational manner.
- Manage games with professionalism while promoting sportsmanship among players, coaches, and spectators.
- Address conflicts calmly and confidently while maintaining control of the match.
- Complete any required game reports or incident documentation.
Qualifications
- Previous soccer playing, coaching, or officiating experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of the Laws of the Game and youth soccer principles.
- Ability to work with children of various ages and skill levels.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude with a passion for youth sports and player development.
- Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
- CPR/First Aid certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, run, and demonstrate soccer skills for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry equipment up to 30 pounds.
