About the role

The Recreation Therapist (RT) at Mule Creek State Prison (MCSP) in Ione, CA, under the supervision of the Senior Psychologist or Supervising Psychiatric Social Worker I, develops, implements, and evaluates therapeutic recreation programs for patients within California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation institutions. The RT instructs and motivates patients in individual and group recreation therapy, monitors and documents treatment progress, and collaborates with other healthcare providers.

Responsibilities

• Develops and implements therapeutic recreation programs for patients.
• Instructs and motivates patients in individual and group recreation therapy.
• Maintains order and supervises patient conduct to ensure safety.
• Makes assessments and incorporates recreational therapy into treatment plans.
• Collaborates with other healthcare providers to share recreational therapy information.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

• Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in recreation or recreation therapy with supervised fieldwork.
• Registration as a senior admitted to the examination.

Qualifications

Additional Qualifications:

• Willingness to create and promote an equitable and inclusive workplace.
• Certification from the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification (CBRPC) or the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification, Inc. (NCTRC).
