Recreation Specialist

Seeking students and adults with program knowledge! The City of Onalaska is hiring a Recreation Specialist to conduct programs and coordinate activities at the Onalaska Dash Center under the general supervision of the Parks & Recreation Director or designee.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement program structure and format.
  • Coordinate and direct program leaders, instructors, coordinators, and coaches on program format.
  • Develop tryout and practice plans, evaluate participants' skill levels, and form teams.
  • Establish program roles and guidelines.
  • Develop, order, and organize program materials such as equipment, forms, uniforms, and schedules.
  • Report injuries, facility hazards, and program concerns to the Recreation Manager or Coordinator.
  • Respond to accidents and emergencies, administer first aid according to training and bloodborne pathogen exposure control plan.
  • Complete incident and accident reports as required.
  • Maintain program equipment and ensure it is in good condition.
  • Organize and administer training and organizational meetings.
  • Maintain communication with program participants, program staff, and office staff.
  • Supervise seasonal and part-time program staff, ensuring appropriate instruction and supervision of participants.
  • Resolve conflicts or problems during program operation, including issues between staff and participants or among staff.
  • Assist with special events, office projects, research, and requests for quotes.
  • Contribute to a cooperative working effort by performing other job-related work as needed or requested.
  • Communicate plans, policies, and procedures to assigned staff.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school or college experience required.
  • Must possess supervision and leadership techniques/skills.
  • Experience playing, coaching, or participating in a sport or program of similar nature.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification required (class available upon hire).
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Minimum age: 14.

Pay

Starting wage for this seasonal, limited-term position is \$18.00 to \$19.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. No benefits are associated with limited-term positions.
