Recreation Specialist

About the role

The Recreation Specialist is responsible for assessing the needs and planning and implementation of individualized therapeutic recreation interventions in home and in the community, to improve the functioning of individuals who have a wide variety of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, behavioral, developmental or age-related needs.

Requirements

• 2‑4 year degree in Recreation Therapy/Therapeutic Recreation
• Minimum of one (1) year working with individuals with intellectual disabilities
• Knowledge of high intensity behavioral supports (must have)
• Valid driver's license and good driving record
• Firm understanding of the APIED process and ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to effectively communicate with non‑verbal individuals
• Detail oriented, highly organized, demonstrates exceptional time management skills
• Ability to think outside the box, resourceful, and work independently
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop and push a wheelchair
• Ability to lift 70 pounds repetitively
• Ability to implement strategic physical intervention techniques requiring rapid physical movement

Preferred Qualifications

Equivalent to one (1) year experience facilitating therapeutic recreational activities.
