Recreation Specialist

Responsibilities

• Aids in supervising summer playgrounds, fall soccer, football, and basketball leagues and other seasonal activities.
• Assists in receiving, inspecting, and issuing materials, supplies, and equipment.
• Maintains inventory records of supplies and equipment and prepares inventory reports and maintenance schedules.
• Serves as Department Safety Officer and assists in training of other workers to safely operate and maintain equipment.
• Aid in preparation and maintenance of all athletic, park, and playground areas.
• Operate backhoe digging ditches and trenches, back lift, tamp, and operate front-end loader in loading gravel, sand, and similar materials on trucks.
• Perform maintenance on equipment operated and other department equipment.
• Support summer playgrounds, fall soccer, football, basketball, and other seasonal recreation activities.
• Maintain athletic fields, parks, and playground areas across the city.
• Operate equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers, weed eaters, and tractors.
• Perform preventive maintenance on department equipment.
• Oversee part-time maintenance staff at Sports Park and City Park.

Requirements

• Graduation from a community college or two (2) years of college with major course work in recreation, golf and sports turf management or a related field.
• OR Graduation from a standard high school and two (2) years experience in preparation and maintenance of athletic fields or general maintenance.
