About the role

We are seeking an energetic, talented Recreation Leader to develop, conduct, and supervise a wide variety of leisure-time activities for all students at the Muhlenberg Job Corps Center. Responsibilities

  • Assist with planning, organizing, and carrying out the department’s total recreational services.
  • Administer a well-rounded program of diversified activities in the assigned recreation component (arts and crafts, movies, weight room, intramurals, etc.).
  • Submit supply needs, including equipment and maintenance, with suggested sources to supervisor.
  • Keep daily records of attendance in recreational activities.
  • Maintain discipline, cleanliness, and inventory control in assigned areas.
  • Post schedules of monthly activities and special events.
  • Submit a schedule of special activities for the upcoming month to supervisor on the last Wednesday of each month.
  • Submit a list of monthly off-Center cultural activities and other events for inclusion on the upcoming month’s calendar of off-Center trips.
  • Maintain a stocked first aid kit in assigned areas, clearly visible and accessible.
  • Assist in recruitment of volunteers and supervise/direct any volunteer personnel assigned to the recreation area.
  • Project a positive self-image and encourage enthusiastic participation in recreation programs.
  • Chaperone and direct off-Center trips, ensuring necessary funds are available.
  • Follow CDSS/CSS/BMS plans and procedures daily.
  • Comply with all DOL guidelines, OFCCP regulations, Job Corps notices and bulletins, and Center policies and procedures.
  • Maintain good housekeeping in all areas and comply with safety practices.
  • Adhere to required property controls policies and procedures.
  • Maintain recreational equipment.
  • Model, mentor, and monitor all Career Success Standards to help students become more employable through continuous reinforcement.
  • Participate in PRH-mandated staff training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the individual’s scope and capabilities.

Requirements

  • Above-average public speaking skills and experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to obtain a commercial driver’s license and travel periodically.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule to meet special and emergency needs of the department.

Qualifications

  • Associate of Arts Degree or one year of related experience working with youth.
  • Valid State Driver’s License.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsements.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and taste or smell.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision capabilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

  • Occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Noise level can vary from moderate to loud.
