Essential Functions
- Planner, developer, coordinator, and teacher of recreation programs for youth and adults through various activities such as art and crafts, games, sport activities, and special events.
- Prepares all materials needed for activities and organizes activities.
- Maintains a daily attendance record of participants.
- Supervises all participants in programs and those at the Aquatic Center during planned activities, as needed.
- Prepares a daily calendar of events for all program participants including Butterfly, Playgrounders, Little Kickers, and Rookie Camp participants.
- Represents the city’s Recreation Department in a positive manner, adhering to and enforcing rules and regulations to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
- Ensures compliance with departmental policies regarding hygiene, health, safety, and sanitation procedures.
- Aids in pool evacuation due to medical and pool emergencies, as needed.
- Reports complaints, problems, and needs concerning patrons and program participants to supervisor.
- Prepares accident and incident reports and communicates incidents promptly to supervisor.
- Refers citizen complaints to supervisor for resolution.

- Learns and applies skills and techniques utilized in planning, developing, coordinating, and teaching various recreation programs and activities.
- Learns and detects health and safety hazards and applies necessary precautions.
- Learns and applies city policies regarding emergency situations, public inquiries, and other co-workers.
- Learns and applies facility rules and regulations.
- Learns and applies city policies regarding cleaning and sanitation procedures.
- Adapts instructional/teaching approach to participant experience and ability.
- Supervises participants of various ages.
- Communicates and deals with the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
- Accurately prepares various records and reports in accordance with established procedures.
- Manages frequent interruptions and/or deals with stressful or potentially hazardous situations.
- Understands and follows both oral and written instructions.
- Communicates and writes effectively in English.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with the general public, other employees, and municipal officials.
Essential Physical Demands And Typical Working Conditions
- Work is generally performed in an outdoor environment.
- Requires considerable physical activity including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, lifting, and carrying supplies and equipment.
- Frequent interaction with the general public from a variety of age groups and may be stressful when dealing with irate citizens.
