About the Role
Plans and monitors recreation center activities, including afternoon summer programs, youth programming, and payment collections. Prepares the recreation center, welcomes community members, and assists them as needed. Handles payments or deposits for facility use, monitors the recreation center and gymnasium, and ensures the facility is properly cleaned and sanitized for community safety.
Responsibilities
- Organizes, supervises, and monitors activities conducted in the recreation center.
- Monitors activities in the weight room, basketball gym, and boxing gym.
- Assists patrons with registration and payment; inputs information into the system; provides information about activities and future events.
- Maintains cleanliness of the recreation center; cleans and sanitizes assigned areas.
- Performs related work as required.
Requirements
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods, including computers and applicable software.
- Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Knowledge of proper use of cleaning equipment.
- Knowledge of recreation center programs and events.
- Skill in organization and time management.
- Skill in performing a variety of duties, often changing tasks of a different nature.
- Skill in customer service.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information and professional boundaries.
- Ability to enforce rules of the gym and recreation center.
- Ability to organize youth programming.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position operates primarily in an office or similar indoor environment but may occasionally require exposure to unpleasant conditions or hazards. Work may involve occasional outside tasks and frequent local travel.
- Exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Frequent exposure to an office or similar indoor environment.
- Occasional exposure to extreme heat (above 100 degrees), moving mechanical parts, fumes, or airborne particles.
- Seldom exposure to extreme cold (below 32 degrees).
Qualifications
- High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
- Less than 1 year of experience in recreational programs, camp counseling, working with children, or related experience.
- Valid Infant, Child, & Adult CPR certification (must be obtained within 90 days of employment).
- Valid First Aid certification (must be obtained within 90 days of employment).
- Valid Texas Driver License (or ability to obtain one within 6 months if holding an out-of-state license).
