About the role
The position is a seasonal, part-time, at-will position. Appointments are made on an annual basis and are subject to program enrollment, budget availability, operational needs, and satisfactory job performance.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a sincere interest in providing each child with a positive experience.
- Responsible for leading a daily group activity and keeping participants engaged at all times.
- Responsible for inventory and orderliness of program equipment/supplies/storage areas.
- Prepares the room or space for the program each day; has all supplies ready for activities.
- Distributes snacks and assists with concessions.
- Maintain records and complete all reports as necessary in a timely manner.
- Be familiar with and uphold behavior policies and safety procedures for all activities.
- Attend all staff meetings, trainings, and workshops.
- Notify and report any problems or concerns of parents and/or children to the Recreation Coordinator.
- Market program at schools and special events; help to recruit participants.
- Perform other program related duties as assigned.
- Prepare, lead, and participate in recreational activities, both active and passive, for school-age children such as games, sports, arts and crafts, and songs at an assigned location.
- Communicate, delegate, review, and implement planned recreational activities.
- Conduct regular safety checks of your area, and correct hazardous situations immediately.
Requirements
- Minimum Education required: Entry-level position. A valid work permit may be required for applicants under the age of 18.
- Minimum Experience required: Previous experience working with children (volunteer work, babysitting, playing sports, coaching, etc.) is preferred (but not required).
- Other requirements: State law requires all selected applicants 18 and over must be fingerprinted and pass a pre-employment background check. A TB test clearance is required for all selected applicants. Reliable transportation to and from work. First Aid/CPR/AED Training or willingness to complete/recertify (preferred).

- Knowledge of recreational activities appropriate for school-age children.
- Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, children, parents, and volunteers.
- Leadership and organizational skills.
- Ability to use independent judgment and take appropriate action to ensure children's and staff's safety.
- Ability to deal with emergencies and stressful situations.

$18.50 - $19.25 per hour
Schedule
10-20 hours per week. Generally, anywhere: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:30am – 7pm (Modified hours for training and other meetings when necessary)
