About the role

The City of Port St Lucie is seeking Recreation Instructors to teach classes in various specialty areas within the Parks & Recreation Department. The position involves planning, organizing, and facilitating special programs and activities.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the development of public trust and confidence in the City.
  • Communicate with event staff, participants, sponsors, and help maintain order.
  • Maintain accurate drop-in sheets and turn them into designated supervisors.
  • Operate at various parks and recreation facilities, park sites, and other work sites as directed.
  • Exposure to loud noises, moving participants, and the public.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
  • Prior experience in teaching is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the field you are instructing is required.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques required to run recreation services and programs.
  • Ability to present ideas and recommendations clearly and concisely in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate promotional skills and leadership.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to appear on time for all scheduled meetings/classes and notify appropriate individuals in advance if unable to work.
  • Ability to oversee programs with clarity and make accurate decisions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
  • Ability to focus on the positive in every situation.
  • Ability to model respect for individuals, teams, and the organization.
  • Ability to stay centered when challenged.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
