Experience Evaluation
An experience evaluation consists of a quantitative evaluation of an Applicant’s academic training and experience pertinent to the classification for which an examination is taken, based on the statement of experience as recorded on the candidate’s application and on academic training based on required credentials. Examples of Duties
Typical Tasks
- Organizes and conducts classes in various leisure time activities such as handcrafts, dance, music, dramatics, games, nature study, team and individual sports, etc.
- Affords assistance in the training of volunteer leaders and summer playground instructors.
- Affords assistance in the supervision, coordination, and organization of special events such as local tournaments, festivals, social programs, exhibits, etc., as required.
- Distributes and accounts for equipment and supplies and affords training to program participants and divisional staff in its proper care and use.
- Maintains records and makes routine and special reports, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or GED is required.
- An Undergraduate degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field is preferred.
- A Valid State of Ohio Driver's License is required.
- One year of paid experience in planning, developing, recruiting, implementing, and instructing youth/adults in various visual art classes is required.
- (Substitution: One of the following may be used to substitute required experience: (i) An Associate's Degree in Art or Drawing (excluding graphic design); (ii) Three years consecutive employment as a paid seasonal Recreation Instructor within the City of Cleveland's Division of Recreation; or (iii) Two years consecutive service as a volunteer recreational instructor or assistant within the City of Cleveland's Division of Recreation.)
Supplemental Information
- CLEVELAND MUNICIPAL SCHOOL DISTRICT (CMSD) PREFERENCE CREDIT: An applicant who is a graduate of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) and is participating in an open competitive entrance-level examination, as determined by the Commission, shall receive an additional five (5) points upon achieving a passing score, as established in the examination announcement.
- VETERANS’ PREFERENCE: Veterans'preferencewillbeawarded,whenapplicable,toeligibleveteransinaccordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G.Proof of activeservice or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (15%) service connected disability.
- Note: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating typeofdischargeorseparationandthedatesofactiveservicewillbeacceptedasproof of active service.
