About the role

The City of San Leandro seeks an innovative Recreation Coordinator to grow and enhance youth recreation programs for children, teens, and families. This role involves planning, coordinating, scheduling, supervising, and participating in the work of staff responsible for supporting the implementation of recreation programming, Citywide special events, and maintaining the safe operation of recreation facilities, sites, programs, and services.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, schedules, assigns, supervises, and participates in the work of recreation staff responsible for recreation program implementation, facility and site operations, services, and events.
  • Coordinates the reservation and maintenance of recreation facilities, sites, equipment, and supplies.
  • Ensures recreation facilities, sites, equipment, and related services are operated safely and in compliance with established City requirements and standards.
  • Trains staff in work procedures; develops and presents training materials; conducts new employee orientations; reviews employee timesheets; prepares recommendations on employee performance, counsels employees, and effectively recommends initial disciplinary action; assists in employee selection and promotion.
  • Oversees and participates in daily, general, and overall recreation programs, facilities, scheduling, usage, and related recreation operations; ensures availability, safety, maintenance, sufficient staff coverage, and adherence and compliance with City standards, safety, and service requirements.
  • Plans and coordinates the implementation of Citywide special events and recreation programs; coordinates and schedules assigned facilities, services, operations, and activities with those of other City departments, contractors, vendors, community partners, and other outside agencies.
  • Maintains and orders recreation facility, site, and program supplies and equipment.
  • Provides program preparation and setup of recreation facilities, sites, and equipment; monitors and coordinates the maintenance and repair of assigned recreation resources.
  • Interacts with recreation facility and park renters, patrons, the public, and City staff to provide customer service and information; responds to questions regarding recreation programs and activities; receives complaints and facilitates resolutions; collaborates to ensure quality customer service and effective scheduling and staffing.

Requirements

  • Education: Equivalent to an associate degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in recreation, education, social services, social sciences, business or public administration, or a related field.
  • Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible experience coordinating recreation programs or community facility operations, events, resources, and programming including lead or supervisory experience.
