Under the direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator(s) – Sports & Programs, this part-time position provides support and leadership in the operations of sports and programs. Hours vary by season, with a minimum of 10 hours per season and up to 25 hours per week. Availability during afternoons, nights, and weekends is required. Candidates must be at least 16 years old.
Responsibilities
- Ensure programs run smoothly by providing proper communication and guidance to youth, adults, staff, spectators, and officials.
- Maintain a welcoming, safe, and positive environment by greeting individuals courteously and resolving issues promptly.
- Assist with programs by coaching and supporting participants effectively.
- Set up programs by arriving on time and preparing as directed.
- Actively supervise programs to ensure a safe, positive, and fun environment for all participants, spectators, staff, and officials; intervene to resolve conflicts and contact supervisors as needed.
- Supervise programs independently and problem-solve issues as they arise.
- Enforce Berthoud Recreation policies and procedures to properly care for facilities and equipment.
- Demonstrate flexibility to work nights, holidays, and weekends.
- Assist with special events.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 1-2 years of customer service experience, a pleasant personality, and a passion for interacting with participants and the public.
- Experience in various sports activities preferred.
- Experience working with youth, especially in programming environments, preferred.
- Ability to multitask and handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
- Strong verbal communication skills; ability to establish and maintain working relationships with employees and the public.
- General understanding of a recreational atmosphere and administrative duties.
- Basic proficiency in office software (word processing, spreadsheets) and scheduling software.
- Valid Colorado Driver’s License.
- Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certification or ability to acquire within 3 months of hire.
Work Environment
- Work may be performed indoors or outdoors, with exposure to varying weather conditions during program oversight.
- Regular travel to various locations within the Town of Berthoud to complete job responsibilities.
- Noise levels may be loud at times, with frequent interruptions and public interactions.
Physical Demands
- Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 40 pounds.
- Requires close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus.
