Recreation Assistant - Navy Lake Site Allatoona

Navy Lake Site Allatoona (NLSA) is in Cartersville, GA and is under the operational control of MWR, Naval Submarine Base, Kings Bay, GA.

About the role

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation program that may include special events, recreation information/resources, community events, trips, tours, outings, party/picnic rental equipment, grab-n-go, movies, and outdoor recreation.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service, information and support of Community Recreation programs and activities, including checking patron eligibility, providing program information, opening/closing facilities, ordering/restocking supplies, and preparing snack bar or prepackaged retail items.
  • Collects fees from customers for sales of tickets, retail and rental items, classes, trips, and other programs using Point of Sales (POS) and computer programs. Accountable for accuracy of daily sales transactions and completes a Daily Activity Report (DAR) at the end of every shift.
  • Assists in processing customer Internet registrations, initial log-ins, and event registrations.
  • Checks Community Recreation equipment and resources in and out, collects rental fees, inventories items, and inspects upon return. Notifies supervisor if damage or loss occurs.
  • Ensures all rental or check-out forms are properly completed and reservation/checkout procedures are followed.
  • Conducts inventory, maintains controls, and ensures proper accountability of program equipment and resources.
  • Assists in administering traditional and non-traditional workshops, clinics, and events in leisure and recreation skills (e.g., camping, cycling, sailing, backpacking, skiing, hiking, water sports).
  • Provides recreation experiences through day and weekend trips.
  • Assists in day-to-day administration of multiple programs, including submission of event after-action reports, patronage data collection, and program data entry.
  • Performs inventory of equipment, retail goods, supplies, and items with cash value.
  • Performs administrative duties using computer software programs to track inventories, patron usage/comments, and program metrics.
  • Assists with recruitment, training, and scheduling of Community Recreation staff.
  • Assists in planning, coordinating, publicizing, marketing, and executing MWR programs and special events.
  • Performs entertainment and promotion scheduling.
  • Assists in updating electronic and multi-media support tools.
  • Promotes MWR facilities and events through outreach opportunities on base and use of recreational E-reading resources via online MWR Library Program.
  • Develops partnerships with on-base and off-base organizations (e.g., park districts, clubs, special interest groups) to support MWR programs.
  • Performs community outreach to develop contacts and assists in creating professional proposals, agreements, and follow-up.
  • Researches and provides information/referral for recreational opportunities on and off base.
  • Adheres to NAVMED P-5010 sanitation requirements.
  • Initiates and follows up on maintenance trouble calls for equipment/facility issues.
  • Provides support for Community Recreation event set-up and break-down.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successfully complete a background investigation using fingerprint identification.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check; discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must complete Personal Identity Verification (PIV) using two forms of identification from Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • A valid State driver’s license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have salary sent via Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be C.A.R.E. trained, hold an Emergency First Responder or CPR First Aid certification, and hold a current Food Handler certification, or obtain these within 90 days of hire.
  • Required to sit, walk, stand for long periods, bend, and lift moderate to heavy items up to 40 pounds.
  • Must work a flexible schedule (0–40 hours per week).
  • Must currently reside within a 50-mile radius of the hiring location (address on resume and USAJOBS will be verified).

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess one of the following:

  • A combination of six (6) months of general experience and six (6) months of specialized experience related to customer service and/or recreation activity-based functions.
  • An associate’s degree if lacking the required experience.

Additional required skills and knowledge:

  • Ability to organize, plan, and administer special events and entertainment activities.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of goals, principles, techniques, and procedures for organizing and conducting leisure activities.
  • Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and scope of Community Recreation activities.
  • Knowledge of recreation activity functions, procedures, and operations.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to maintain records, compile/organize data for reports, and perform research on recreation topics.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of computers, office procedures, and print production.
