Recreation Assistant (Fitness Support)

About the role

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) Naval Support Activity Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA.

Responsibilities

Incumbent serves in an assistant or support capacity and may perform duties within the Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branches, including:

• Administrative Support: providing customer service, answering telephone, completing Daily Activity Reports, handling cash, and assisting in planning and publicizing activities
• Instructional Support: monitoring participants, conducting instructional classes, performing basic fitness orientation, and demonstrating procedures and equipment use
• Facility/Equipment Maintenance: ensuring facilities are open and closed at posted times, monitoring security, maintaining equipment and facilities, and performing janitorial services

Requirements

Conditions of employment include:

• Passing all applicable records and background checks
• Successfully passing the E-Verify employment verification check
• Having or obtaining and maintaining Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification
• Having or obtaining and maintaining Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood-borne Pathogen Certification, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification within 90 days of hire

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess:

• Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations involving the work area
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic, cash handling procedures, and basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles
• Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs and others related to fitness, sports, and aquatics programming
• Skill and ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation
• Ability to competently and independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations
• Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
