About the Role
This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; CNIC. The primary function is to ensure proper usage of the facility, assist in the operation of the recreation activity, and provide proper collection and disposition of revenues generated at the assigned facility.
Responsibilities
- Administrative Support
- Provides customer service to patrons, including greeting customers, checking identification, issuing and receiving gear/equipment, and registering patrons for facility use, events, or classes.
- Answers telephone inquiries regarding facility hours, upcoming events, and programs.
- Completes Daily Activity Reports, handles cash transactions, verifies collected amounts, and secures cash in a drop safe.
- Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing activities while maintaining related supplies to attract and motivate participants.
- Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) fitness activities based on participant feedback, resources, and program objectives.
- Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors during programs/events and reports issues to management.
- Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities based on participant interests and available resources.
- Instructional Support
- Monitors participants in indoor and outdoor activities, including intramural sporting events.
- Conducts instructional classes in assigned recreational areas.
- Performs basic fitness orientation, identifies and corrects unsafe techniques, and demonstrates proper equipment use.
- Establishes/reviews event schedules, conducts tours, and prepares facilities (e.g., gymnasiums, playing fields) for events such as lap swim, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties, and sporting events.
- Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.
- Facility/Equipment Maintenance
- Ensures facilities and sporting fields are opened/closed at posted times and monitors premises security.
- Circulates among patrons to assist with equipment use and maintain order.
- Ensures athletic playing surfaces are safe and properly maintained.
- Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment/facilities, including janitorial duties (e.g., sweeping, mopping, cleaning workout areas, bathrooms, and locker rooms).
- Performs minor repairs to facilities and equipment and assists with outdoor maintenance.
- Reports maintenance issues, material deficiencies, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.
Qualifications
Resumes must demonstrate experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) relevant to this position. A qualified candidate must possess:
- Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic for computing charges, dispersing change, and preparing reports.
- Knowledge of cash handling procedures.
- Knowledge of basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.
- Knowledge of safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic maintenance/repair.
- Skill in using Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other software related to fitness, sports, and aquatics programming.
- Skill and ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.
- Ability to independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations.
- Ability to develop and deliver presentations and/or training.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Education
This position does not have a positive education requirement.
