Recreation Assistant

Summary

Support the Military's Quality of Life programs! The Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) department of Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) provides fitness, recreation, lodging and food and beverage programs for service members, their families, retired military and civilian employees. This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Community Recreation, and Deployed Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations command (CNIC); NAS Whidbey Island.

Duties

  • Perform a variety of duties in support of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Community Recreation program that includes special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, bowling, Library, grab-n-go, movies and outdoor recreation
  • Demonstrate customer service while attending to front counter operations such as use of point of sale systems, collecting fees/cash handling associated with sale of tickets and rental items, accountable for accuracy of daily sales transactions, assisting customers with questions, complaints and suggestions
  • Conduct and maintain inventories of equipment, retail goods, rental supplies and item for proper accountability
  • Perform entertainment and promotion scheduling
  • Issue game equipment, general housekeeping, bowling program and program support
  • Handle cash and operate a point of sale system
  • Drive a 15 passenger van
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Successful completion of National Agency Background (NACI) Check required
  • Available to work special events, weekends and holidays
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Considerable standing, bending, stooping, walking, pushing, reaching, climbing and lifting of objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted
  • Obtain and maintain food handler's certification, CPR and First Aid within 90 days of hire
  • Climbing in and around equipment, moving towable equipment and organization of seasonal equipment and supplies
  • U.S. Citizen to obtain and maintain a Secret Security clearance

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently
  • One year of practical work experience
  • Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities
  • Knowledge of goals, principles and techniques and procedures used in organizing, planning and conducting leisure time activities
  • Knowledge of the Navy MWR mission and entire scope of Community Recreation activities and their suitability for individuals, groups, ages and interests
  • Responsible with a pleasant, courteous attitude who can communicate effectively with the public
  • Collect and accurately record cash transactions, and operate a cash register
  • Schedule can include nights, weekends and holidays
