Position Location

This position is located in our office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Job Overview

Aids in providing leadership and guidance to students in a group living environment, and offers practical guidance in compliance with government, corporate, and management directives. Manages and supervises recreational and leisure activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists students in developing positive social skills through modeling appropriate behavior, positive intervention, and teaching healthy habits.
  • Ensures proper workplace/community conduct, appearance, and behavior through participation in BMS or SCC programs.
  • Serves as a role model by demonstrating appropriate etiquette, timeliness, professionalism, and dress.
  • Supervises recreational activities for students with varying skill levels and backgrounds.
  • Schedules and coordinates group activities, including making reservations, arranging transportation, and distributing information about activities.
  • Makes changes to the recreation and physical fitness program to encourage full student participation.
  • Communicates with students individually to address their day-to-day problems and provide practical advice.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy environment for all students engaged in recreational and physical fitness activities.
  • Ensures facilities are prepared for scheduled activities, including having necessary equipment and supplies available.
  • Operates government vehicles to transport students to and from off-site activities.
  • Manages reservations, collects payments, and distributes information about games and activities.
  • Ensures students are informed about safety requirements and follows all safety rules and regulations.
  • Submits monthly recreation and other reports as required.
  • Communicates effectively with students and addresses their questions and concerns.
  • Maintains order and promotes harmony among students, addressing social, behavioral, or disciplinary issues.
  • Instructs students on good sportsmanship, teamwork, and group interaction skills.
  • Carries out recurring assignments independently without specific instruction from center staff.
  • Interacts professionally with students, even in challenging situations, maintaining a calm demeanor.
  • Encourages participation and responsiveness from students who may be resistant to leadership or direction.
  • May require physical exertion when participating in group sports or instructing students on proper activity engagement techniques.
  • Driving may be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Compliance with company standard operating procedures and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Completes all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
  • Performs duties in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with all levels of Center staff and students.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with all departments.
  • Completes departmental work accurately and on time.
  • Deals with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diverse situations.
  • Adheres to established company safety policies and works safely, using any required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • One (1) year related experience working with youth.
  • Must obtain Water Safety training within 90-days of hire.
  • Must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within ninety (90) days of employment (if applicable).
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOT/CDL medical certification (if applicable).
  • Successfully pass and participate in the mandatory DOT/CDL drug and alcohol testing program (if applicable).
  • Successfully pass any background check and/drug test required on the contract.
  • Ability to obtain & maintain a valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in counseling, social work, rehabilitation, education, recreation, or related field.
  • Previous experience within a recreation program in a school or park system.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly stands and is active for long periods of time, especially when participating in activities with students.
  • Frequently lifts and/or moves up to 30 pounds and occasionally more.
  • Frequent use of hands for tasks such as finger, hand, and arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision for close work, adjusting focus, and reading.
