Recreation Assistant

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in developing and conducting recreational programs and activities designed for residents with memory care needs.
• Engage residents in meaningful activities that promote mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
• Provide one-on-one and group support to residents during activities, ensuring safety and participation.
• Observe and report changes in residents’ behavior or condition to the appropriate staff.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to enhance resident care and activity planning.
• Aid in the set-up and clean-up of activity areas and materials.
• Encourage resident independence and dignity through supportive interactions.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Experience working with elderly populations, especially in memory care or long-term care settings, is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary.
• The ability to engage and motivate residents with varying cognitive abilities is important.
• A basic understanding of recreational therapy principles is beneficial.
• The ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays as needed, is required.
