Responsibilities

  • Provides information on mental illness, recovery, and wellness to clients and their supports.
  • Affords assistance to clients and their identified supporters in understanding the impact of mental health issues and achieving the best possible outcomes.
  • Collaborates with a team to offer a range of services including mental health case management and support for social determinants of health.
  • Facilitates community support interventions to assist clients in managing their illnesses, building skills, identifying and using natural supports, and accessing community resources.
  • Reviews and supports clients in completing symptom checklists and prioritizes activities to optimize client service delivery.
  • Maintains awareness of community resources and ensures service delivery maximizes available resources and services.
  • Prioritizes tasks in collaboration with the supervisor to meet performance expectations and recognizes when to seek help for personal wellness.
  • Contributes to the expansion of knowledge and skills, provides consultation to agency staff and the community, and participates in special projects as requested.
  • Serves on agency-wide committees and work groups or community committees, as approved by supervisor and agency leadership.

Requirements

  • Peer/RSS must be in recovery and have successfully navigated the MH and/or Substance Abuse system for themselves or a family member.
  • Passes a State of Illinois background check.
  • Communicates effectively in both oral and written forms.
  • Works effectively with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Has a positive attitude and self-motivation.
  • Has demonstrated good judgment in advocating for the best interests of consumers served.
  • Has basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Certified Recovery Support Specialist certification preferred or attainable within six months of hire.
  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) certification or relevant experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Satisfactorily passes all relevant screenings and criminal background checks.
  • Requires driving for work with transportation of clients preferred in a personally owned vehicle.
  • Not required to travel between sites.
