Responsibilities
- Maintain complete hourly (or specialized) observation checks on a patient assigned to the Recovery Support Specialist.
- Ensure proper location number is recorded in the proper time slot.
- Complete EMR notes during the proper shift location in a clear and timely manner.
- Encourage patients to attend all groups, medical appointments, and clinical appointments.
- Guide the patient in appropriate behaviors.
- Ensure patients are acting appropriately and respectfully during groups and are not leaving groups for unexcused reasons.
- Remove patients’ names from the attendance sheet if they have attended the majority of the group or had an appointment.
- Monitor group members and ensure copies of group sign-in sheets are being made and given to the facilitator and the original being filed in the Recovery Support Specialist office.
- Complete daily room checks.
- Perform room searches when requested by the Director of Operations, medical or clinical staff, or any other safety reasons.
- Review patient handbooks and orient patients to the program.
- Stock the supply closet.
- Provide educational and support groups for patients.
- Assist with the transport of patients to the ER, outside appointments, and off-site activities.
- Monitor all residential and detox phone calls and record these calls in the call logbook.
- Process intakes and discharges along with their paperwork.
- Transport patients to the hospital and stay with them.
- Assist with crisis intervention with patients and engage with the community to promote positive interactions, decrease AMA potentials, and provide additional attention to those patients who are struggling with engagement in treatment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to work in and adapt the culture of a multi-cultural, community-based organization.
- Commitment to maintain confidentiality.
- Understanding of the Agency’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients in all circumstances.
- Previous experience working with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders preferred.
- Good inter-personal skills.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and have access to reliable transportation, along with current auto liability insurance that meets or exceeds the minimum requirements set by the State.
- Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
- Satisfactory drug screening and criminal background check.
