Recovery Support Specialist

About the role

This position provides support to patients of Residential Treatment Facilities throughout their treatment. The Recovery Support Specialist is responsible for daily observations of each assigned patient and the completion of all daily notes into the patient’s EMR. Recovery Support Specialists help guide patients in appropriate behaviors and encourage them to attend all groups, medical appointments, and clinical appointments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain complete hourly (or specialized) observation checks on assigned patients and ensure proper location number is recorded in the proper time slot.
• Complete EMR notes during the proper shift location in a clear and timely manner.
• Remain with assigned patient unless absolutely necessary.
• Ensure patients act appropriately and respectfully during groups and do not leave for unexcused reasons; remove names from attendance sheets if they leave unless they attended the majority of the group or had an appointment.
• Ensure patients sign into group meetings and monitor group members.
• Make copies of group sign-in sheets and provide them to the facilitator; file the original in the Recovery Support Specialist office.
• Complete daily room checks and room searches when requested by the Director of Operations, medical or clinical staff, or for safety reasons.
• Conduct bag searches upon new patient admissions.
• Review the patient handbook and orient patients to the program.
• Complete daily room searches for detox patients.
• Process intakes and discharges along with their paperwork.
• Transport patients to the hospital and stay with them.
• Monitor all residential and detox phone calls and record them in the call logbook.
• Stock the supply closet.
• Provide educational and support groups for patients.
• Assist with transporting patients to ER, outside appointments, and off-site activities.
• For concierge care assignments: assist with crisis intervention, engage with the community to promote positive interactions, decrease AMA potentials, and provide additional attention to patients struggling with treatment engagement. This includes helping patients get to groups, meet appointments, join campus activities, and remove barriers to treatment.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to work in and adapt to the culture of a multi-cultural, community-based organization.
• Commitment to maintain confidentiality.
• Understanding of the Agency’s mission and culture and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries with staff and clients.
• Previous experience working with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders preferred.
• Employment contingent upon clear UDS and criminal history record.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and current auto liability insurance meeting or exceeding state minimum requirements.
• Initial and ongoing MVR verification; must maintain an acceptable driving record in accordance with policy.
• Satisfactory references from employers and/or professional peers.
• Satisfactory drug screening and criminal background check.
